Overview
Gautama Buddha - also referred to as The Awakened, was the founder of one of the world's largest religions Buddhism. The life of Buddha is not bound to a single place but it parted in many beautiful and sacred places located in India and Nepal. This tour takes you to all those places to know the Buddha and his life better. This 13-day journey not only covers places related to Buddha but also includes a sojourn to India's three heritage cities - Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra, which together are called Golden Triangle.
The exploration takes you to the miraculous place, Shravasti, where Buddha displayed a dire yet beautiful miracle when six non-believers challenged his wisdom. Shravasti is also a significant site in Buddhism as Gautam Buddha spent almost 25 post enlightenment years here. Then the trail leads you to the birthplace of Buddha, Lumbini, in Nepal. Lumbini has sacred temples from the 2nd century dedicated to Buddha and his peaceful teachings. The place where Buddha attained Parinirvana (nirvana-after-death), Kushinagar, is one of the holiest Buddhist places in this journey.
You can see the Ashoka pillar and Buddha stupa in Vaishali, which is also the place where Buddha delivered his last sermon and declared his nirvana. The place where lord Buddha attained enlightenment, Bodh Gaya, is the most popular of all the sites on the tour. At Bodh Gaya, one can still see the sacred Fig tree, which is the direct descendent of the original tree under which Buddha meditated and received all the answers to the questions he was seeking. Further leading the way to Sarnath near Varanasi, believed to be the first place where Buddha delivered the sermon after enlightenment.
Then enjoy the visit to the three Golden Triangle destinations known for some of the world's most marvelous architectural beauties including the Taj Mahal in Agra, Amber Fort in Jaipur, and the experience of "Mini India" in Delhi.
